In this class we will be practicing the Yi Jin Jing (Muscle Tendon Changing Classic) created by Bodhidharma, the founder of Zen (Chan) Buddhism and of the Shaolin temple. This series of 24 exercises prepares the body to develop martial power and deep meditation. By practicing Qi Gong, one can achieve mental calm, relief from stress and anxiety, release of aches and pains, and a whole realignment of the body that can help recover from illnesses and injuries. Accessible to all ages, these practices can be performed at gentle or athletic levels. One may find that their physical abilities expand gradually and without force, while doing these practices.

In our school, we cultivate three successive, yet also simultaneous, stages of development.

The Three Treasure Stages Of Cultivation:

  1. Jing - Strengthen and align the body. By building the alignment of the body and also the blood cell count, we not only address pain and illness, we also create the foundation for stage two.

  2. Qi - Once the body is open and relaxed, one’s life force can circulate and build within this newly refined container. Through the use of attention and breathing, we will learn how to build up a reservoir of healing energy. Once cultivated, we can tap into deeper states of well being, stamina in our endeavors, and the basis for stage three.

  3. Shen - By relying on the physical health and energetic vitality developed in the prior stages, we use the energy to develop our consciousness. Whether we’d like to increase the potency of our meditation or simply be more present with others, we now have the power to do so.

These three stages occur in unison, but we also can choose to focus on them sequentially. Building these treasures is a lifelong endeavor, but the benefits accrue more and more with time and practice. Day by day, session by session, we can see our health, well being, and consciousness evolve. Come Join us!

Instructor Bio
Sean Lim has had a deep passion and connection to the eastern traditions from an early age. His main interests are in how qi gong, Chinese martial arts and meditation can cultivate profound levels of health, well being, and ultimately spiritual revelation. He has been studying the art of Northern Shaolin, Tai Chi Chuan, and Qi Qong from traditional Buddhist and Daoist lineages and masters for the last 7 years. After years of health challenges and weakness, turning to these arts in times of illness, injury, and stress have been life transforming for him. While his own practice deepens, he hopes to share the healing power of these teachings.
